What we read... in October

Last night, Lily and I finished reading our second chapter book - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I've really enjoyed it, perhaps because it signals the end of the day and some adult time but it's nice to snuggle up and read a chapter a night. I'm now a bit stuck about what to read next, do I try another Narnia book or go back to Enid Blyton's Enchanted Wood series? Maybe there is another good chapter book for pre-schoolers out there? If you know of one, please let me know!

Of course, we still read an awful lot of picture books. Ollie is currently obsessed with The Very Busy Spider as well as all things train, car or plane related. I've shuffled round our book baskets so that we can re-visit some old favourites and the Guess How Much I Love You books for Autumn and Winter always leave me with a warm, fuzzy feeling no matter how often I read them.

I tried something a little different this month and read The Dark Prince by Emma Leech and although I enjoyed it I was a little disappointed by how predictable the plot was and so I'm wary about recommending it. I was intrigued by some of the characters - Corin in particular, and I liked the fact that there was a crossover with 'our world' and the land of the fae but there was so much scope to explore and I felt that was overlooked in pursuit of the romance storyline. That said, this is only the first in a series and I want to read more so it's certainly not all bad!

Have you read any good books lately?

I've been thinking about starting to read chapter books with my preschooler as he's starting to enjoy longer books. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe would be a lovely one to start with. #KLTR

We reviewed Oliver and Patch recently and it's such a sweet book isn't it? I didn't know there was a winter version of Guess How Much I Love you either.
