So, imagine my excitement when I found out that there is a company out there who posts cakes through your letterbox! Real cakes, personalised and properly iced, posted through your letterbox! It sounded like an icing-sugar induced dream but it is true.
Enter Baker Days, where they make "it simple to create your own special design of cake". They do a range of sizes, from cupcakes and letterbox cakes to party cakes for 50 people. You browse through hundreds of designs or upload your own, select the type of cake you would like (some options cost more) and add any personalisation. Then you just pay and wait for delivery.
It does indeed fit easily through the letterbox, and inside the outer packaging is a lovely little keepsake tin containing the cake. It also included some candles, balloons and a party blower - everything you need for a mini celebration.
With Father's Day coming up I went for a 'Superdad' design and personalised it from the kids. I thought it looked pretty cool!
It is thin (obviously, it has to fit through the letter box) but is enough for 4-5 portions. The cake itself was nice, we picked a chocolate chip cake with chocolate buttercream and it went down very well with Lily who also loved finishing off my icing. Matt also declared that the cake was very good and went back for a second slice! I'm sure that the judges on Great British Bake Off could find fault with the cake itself but for me it is all about the novelty factor which definitely scored highly.
My only reluctance in buying this would be the cost. At a starting price of £14.99 I would only be buying these for a very special occasion or it would work very well for a colleague's birthday in the office or if you wanted to treat a loved one who lived far away!
If you fancy trying these for yourself you can pop along to the Baker Days website and get ordering! Or you join my first ever blog giveaway below for a chance to win one for free!
