So save yourself the stress and make sure you label everything. Literally, everything. Polo shirts, pinafores, trousers, jumpers, shoes, pencil cases and lunchboxes can easily be misplaced in a room filled with excited children and all their various bits of school paraphernalia.
Luckily, there are companies out there now who make this task as easy as possible for you.
Companies like neatlynamed, who provide a range of personalised, colourful name labels and stickers to label your child’s belongings.
As I prepare for Lily starting school this September, I was sent a ‘Back2School XXL Value Pack' to review. The pack is one of a selection on the site, saving you money in comparison to purchasing items separately.
Placing the order was straightforward, Once you've decided on your product you're able to customise each label type by adding your own text and selecting an icon which will help your child identify their own belongings even if they may not be able to recognise the letters in their name just yet.
At each stage there is a preview box for you to see the changes you're making and decide on how you want the finished product to look. You can see here that I toyed with a number of icons before deciding on the ladybird one.
As well as the text and icon, you're able to choose the colour(s) and even the text font - offering you plenty of choice when it comes to picking something unique.
When you've personalised your label you are able to review each item in your shopping basket before confirming and continuing with the easy to use checkout process.
neatlynamed aim to deliver your purchses within 2-3 days which is great if you've left labelling your child's belongings until the end of the holidays! You're sent email updates along the way and your products arrive promptly, enclosed within a handy envelope for keeping all the items together before using.
Each label type is packaged clearly with instructions for use. The Back2School XXL pack included:
30 x Small Name Labels
20 x Small Shoe Label Protectors
20 x Mini Name Labels
30 x Large Iron on Labels
18 x Peel 'n Stick Clothing Labels
1 Bag Tag
I used the small name labels for Lily's water bottle and lunchbox as they're easily applied and suitable for both the microwave and dishwasher. To test them out, I added them to her lunchbox for pre-school and used them for over a week, washing them in dishwasher daily. The labels are sturdy and there is no discolouring or peeling at all.
Likewise with the shoe label protectors, I used them with the small name labels for some of Lily's shoes. The protectors are better than a label on it's own because they help protect against the constant rubbing of small feet!
Now I've purchased some school uniform pieces I've also been trying out the Peel 'n Stick clothing labels and the large iron-on labels. I wasn't looking forward to ironing labels on to each of Lily's polo shirts but I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and simple it was to do. I used a piece of baking paper to protect the clothes because the iron does need to be on the highest setting and you will need to press quite firmly to ensure the label adheres properly to the clothes - I found it took me a couple of attempts to get it right without the edges curling.
The best thing about the iron on labels is that they can be removed at a later date once your child has outgrown the clothing and you're ready to pass on to the next child or sell on at a Nearly New Sale.
The Peel 'n Stick labels are genius and do exactly what they promise! You peel and then stick them to the care label, leaving in place for a few hours (overnight in our case) to ensure it stays stuck.
I've been very impressed with the quality of product and feel it is worth the £25.45 price tag for the value pack. I would have bulked at the price but after spending over £100 on the rest of the uniform, shoes bags and PE Kit I felt that it would be worth spending just a bit more to ensure that items are not going home on the back of another child!

These are excellent! I'm so disappointed that my son doesn't have to wear a uniform to school, I was excited for that #DreamTeam
These look fab! We're a couple of years off school, but will definitely keep these in mind when he starts.
