Handmade Paper Christmas Decorations

By this time next week, the Christmas Crafternoon event that I'm planning to raise money for Mind will be over. Mince pies would have been eaten, mulled wine finished and good friends sent home with little pieces of crafted joy (hopefully).

Planning so far has had the usual ups and downs. The most important bits like venues, timings and invitations were sorted out pretty quickly and I was able to set up my own fundraising page with Virgin Giving which was simple and easy to use. The hardest bit has been finding companies and businesses to support the event - either by donating craft supplies, refreshments or raffle prizes. Realistically, I know that they must get hundreds of requests and can't support them all but I can't help feeling just a tad disappointed that we can't hold a raffle.

On the other end of the scale, family and friends have been incredibly generous so far. We've received a lovely contribution for buying craft supplies and mince pies, anything left over will then go in the pot at the end of the night, I've ordered some beads and crystals from eBay and eagerly awaiting the arrival of the postman each day. As of this morning, the amount raised on my giving page is £65 - nearly halfway to my target of £150!

And behind the scenes, I've been prepping some of the crafts for the night, including this really easy paper bauble.

You will need:
Paper or card
String or twine
Glue (I used a glue stick but a small amount of PVA works too, as does double sided tape)
Optional buttons or beads

You can use any type of paper/card for these but I decided to use "Winnie-the-Pooh's Little Book of Wisdom" which I've had floating around for a while with no idea where it came from!

1. Once you have your paper ready, draw a circle (I used a small cup as a template) and them out. You can decide how many you'd like depending on the fullness of your bauble - this one used 12 circles.

2. Fold each paper circle in half and proceed to stick them together.

3. Before sticking the final pieces together to complete the circle, place your string or twine in the middle to give you the hanging piece. I added a pearl button at this point - as a Pearly Queen I am lucky to have loads of options to choose from! You can use buttons, beads, crystals or anything else that takes your fancy.

4. Then they're ready for hanging! If you wanted to, you could add glitter or further embellishments at this stage, the best thing about this craft is that it takes very little time to do the basic and so you can really get creative on the finishing touches.

Keep popping back over the coming week to see what other crafts I have planned and how the event goes on the night.

What a great sounding event and well done on your fund raising. I love your bauble, I've seen shop made versions of these but what a great idea to make your own, they would be wonderful made from old Christmas cards too. I always keep mine looking for new things to do with them.

Thank you for sharing with me on #Trash2Treasure

Hope your event went well. There is so much to organize, I know. Love your baubles. I tried to make some once, but I think my card was too thick and nothing lined up properly. You have inspired me to have another go. #Trash2Treasure

I'd love to do this with the kids. So many different variations we could make, just by using different card. Your Christmas bauble is lovely. Thanks for sharing. #Trash2Treasure
